About

Belfast-based trio Myriad Things immerses you in a sonic landscape imbued with diversity of thought and sound. The influences are eclectic and multi-generational, seamlessly and tastefully blending elements of progressive rock, shred guitar, psychedelia, funk, ethereal and ambient soundscapes, and even some of the blues.  The group's New EP ‘Sanctuary’ finds the band taking a giant step forward in sound and production, the result is a blistering piece of 70’s prog rock that nods to heritage but feels entirely contemporary and vital. Alongside filling Belfast's iconic venue The Empire, Sanctuary and previous releases have won the band acclaim with press and fans alike, catching the sharpened ears of taste makers such as Hot Press, RTE Entertainment, Chordblossom and Rock N Load. Over the course of three tracks on ‘Sanctuary’ the band further expand their sound and consciousness, moving between to swirling psychedelia of title track ‘Sanctuary’, to the Zeppelin-esque stomp of ‘There is Nothing There’ to the expansive ‘Colours of the World. Lyrically the EP addresses themes of existential pressures and the desire to escape, drawing on Buddhist and Taoist philosophies to help try and make sense of a world that never seems to switch off.

The true beauty and success of the project lies in the undeniable chemistry of its members. "Virtuoso guitar playing (Jonnie Rice) held in check by a really solid and quite spectacular rhythm section (Brendan Doran and Jimmy McCrory)" - Daily Mirror NI.

The intention of Myriad Things is to push boundaries whilst still maintaining a clear musical identity in its sound, giving people what they want but challenging them to open their minds and broaden their perspectives. The group keeps itself anchored in its rock and roll roots, never underestimating the power and importance of the riff, shred guitar solo, or groove-laden rhythm section. With that, the sound is constantly evolving with experimentation and utilisation of new electronic effects on guitar and bass, traditional instruments like steel tongue drum and bouzouki, linear and score-like compositions, varied and orchestral use of percussion instruments, and artfully crafted thematic lyrics.
